Target Audience

On this picture to the left below is a representation of the audience that my final product is targeted towards. These type of people are usually of the age of a late teen to a young adult who go out to places such as night clubs and parties.

Here is a demographic of who they are
  • Age: 18-28
  • Gender: Male & Female
  • Working class: middle – upper class
  • Likes: Drinking, Partying, Socializing

These type of people would still be in education, usually at universities or colleges, they would still have a lot of free time on their hands and
spend a lot of their time taking to friends and going out clubbing. As for shopping they would choose clothes that would be classy, things like dresses and shirts this is due to the high standard of nightclubs with what you wear (thing like trainers are not accepted).

Some of the places they shop are high priced, shops such as Costa Coffee and Next are usually chosen for food, drinks and clothes; with this in mind it shows that they would also be able to afford more expensive things, this showed in the survey I done earlier in the year.

The type of programs that may watch will not be on normal TV, thing like Netflix and amazon prime have attracted these type of people with the type of shows that they produce e.g. walking dead, breaking bad and many more.

As for my magazine I have made sure to target the demographic in the sense of the main image and the style of design of the magazine you can see this where it has a simplistic design and the main image character wears jumper and a cap while using headphones as an accessory. I have also targeted some of the other images towards the target audience, things such as mixer boards have been added to attract the target audience in what brand the artists use which could then intern be used as advertising.

Contact Sheet & Unedited Images

These photos above are unedited raw images taken on the day of the photo shoot, they were taken using a Digital SLR camera making sure that there was a lot of light to make sure that the images were not too dark when it comes to putting them after editing in the magazine.

Some of the other images that you can see near the bottom were taken for pages like the contents page, this is because the target audience for the magazine are most likely music technology fanatics and would also like to see the latest tech as well as the new DJ on the block.

I like these images because it shows the model using equipment which I would be able to use when it comes to making the magazine.

Institutions

Looking at the structure of my magazine and the target audience that may buy it, I suggest that it would be a good idea to assign a publisher to publish the magazine, this is because that aren’t that many magazines that focus on DJ music in the magazine industry.

From the different publishers available, I think that Bauer would be best suited to publish my magazine, this is because their music magazines are dedicated to the type of music that it is targeted towards, one of their magazines ‘KERRANG’ only holds information about rock music; By doing this, this will keep the target audience interested in the magazine and keeps the readers reading. Bauer also create very high quality magazines which they are able to publish worldwide and by allowing them to publish my magazine ‘PULSE’ it will open the door to the global market and increase sales across the board, with this the magazine could appear in shops such as Walmart which is one of the biggest super market in America, this company also owns the supermarket chain ASDA in the UK.

When creating a new magazine and giving it to a publisher to publish it is important to remember that not all magazines are or have been successful, in 2009 alone over 367 magazines were closed this was due to the technology boom of eBooks and smartphone, this is why it is important to think about making the magazine digital due to the type of audience that will be buying it, this will also open the option of including adverts within the magazine to increase revenue and decrease cost. It would be a good idea to sign deals with online music market places, eBook dealers like google play store or apple app store would be a good place to start due to the popularity of them on each device and the accessibility to buy magazines and books.

Will all of the modern technology being used by the everyday consumer there has been a rapid expansion of music streaming sites such as YouTube and Spotify, these streaming sites allow users to stream music to a device at a monthly fee, it would be a good idea to get involved in this somehow, this could either be by getting interviews with artists or by getting featured in adverts that pop up before a piece of music starts.

Location / Props / Costumes

As the music magazine I will be creating is a techno music magazine I will be needing to take the photos in some sort of club or recording studio, this is because of all of the equipment in the area that I can use as props e.g. mixing boards, headphones and speakers. These will help add depth to the photos in the magazine. If I were to use a recording studio I would need to get permission to use it, this may involve contacting the owner and asking permission to use the area for a day the same would be for a club. On location it may be a good idea to get some lighting set up to make sure that the model is well light for when it comes to editing the photos, if I were to have low key lighting it may reduce the quality of the photo when it comes to adding it the magazine.

As for the costume the model will need to be wearing hoodies, caps and headphones. This is the sort of equipment that a DJ would wear, if I were to use someone else not wearing that sort of clothing the photos would look out of place and the target audience would not be able to relate to the character.

It’s important to remember that when taking the photos I need to get the model using some of the equipment this could be headphones, mixing board and computers, by doing this it will allow the target audience to see what the music writer is up to and what he/she does in their own time when writing music.

Here is a list of props that I may need when doing the photo shoot,
  • Headphones
  • Mixing board
  • Speakers
  • Turntable
  • Computers
  • Monitors
  • Disco lights
Here is a list composed of clothing that the model may need to wear,
  • Hoodie
  • Shirt
  • Cap
  • Hi-tops
  • Dark clothing/colour clothing

Colour Mood Board

In my colour mood board I decided to include every colour so that I will give me more options for when it comes to creating my magazine; By doing this it will make is easier to compare which colours goes together. On the mood board I included many different shades of colours, this will help me blend different colours together that may not be typically used, making it different from other techno music magazines.
From looking at other techno music magazines I discovered that the most used colours are purples, green and blues, this may have something to do with the low lighting at a night club or the fact that a lot of DJ boards use theses lights for showing the volume of the music. By using these three colours this will help grab the attention of the target audience for when they look though the magazine rack; this will also keep the theme of the magazine throughout each page.

Because techno music is associated vibrant colours I will be using these three colour, Purple, Blue and greens. I will also be using a lot of darker colours like black and greys to go with the vibrant colours, this will stop the pages from being too colour full.

Draft work feedback - 3 Jan

Your draft work is really taking shape now Kyle, and definitely has the potential to achieve a high grade.
You must get your images in place and start to consider how you can integrate some colour into your work. Then you can really start to finalise the process and complete the work.
Good work to date - make sure you complete all your research and planning and then you can focus on the evaluation process.

Carl.

Feedback - 10 Dec

Kyle - points so far on your blog:

Target audience and Advertisers mood boards are excellent as is the analysis work which goes with them - keep this standard up throughout and you should be aiming towards the top grade boundary.

All of your research work is not showing on your blog - I think you may have used a link from OneDrive which is causing them to not show possibly for anyone else viewing your blog apart from you. Use an app viewer such as Flipsnack or Scribd if they are in PDF format or Slideshare for presentations. I know you have completed the work but I can't mark it if I cannot see it!
Get this sorted ASAP!

Also, you are still missing some planning posts, namely the colour mood board and initial ideas statement. If completed, make sure you have added these to your blog ASAP.

Have you completed your questionnaire for the main task yet?? If so, this is something you can get on your blog and you will need to analyse the results in relation to your main task.

Good work so far - your main task is coming along and is showing a lot of promise to be strong, high grade work but get your main images done!
