Target Audience Mood Board

The mood board for the target audience (which is people who like techno music) was tricky to follow as their likes and dislikes would be revolved around technology, so it was difficult to find images about technology as picture came up with the same search results, this being circuit boards and neon lights, to work my way around this I found images that looked futuristic and modern e.g. smart phones and images from a film names Tron; this also lead me to choose images of what my target audience my use e.g. cars, phones, speakers, website and cameras.

From what I have noticed from the mood board is that there are a lot of neon blues and green, this shows me that it may be a good idea to use these colour on the front cover of my final product, as this would attract the attention to the shelves to my target audience. Other such colours could be used on other pages of the magazine, these colour could be very similar in stature against the blues and greens, these colours could be different shades of reds yellows and purples; each of these would give a good verity in different pages.

Advertiser’s Mood Board

The target audience for the advertiser’s mood board was is very similar in stature with other advertiser’s mood boards this is because we live in a world were the same advertisers show up everywhere we go; all of these companies like KFC, Mc Donald’s, Starbucks, and Netflix, we have heard from somewhere or someplace. Because of this I decided to include them in my advertiser’s mood board as I suspect that my target audience has used them at some time in their lives.
People who are interested in techno music are always upfront with what technology they use, companies such as google, Nvidia, AMD and LG all have their dealings in technology in some way or form, so some people would like to see what the latest gadgets that are available to the consumer, this is why I decided to include them.

I also included logos from pieces of software that techno music lovers may of liked or have used. These software companies do not get recognized that much and have to rely on users to spread the word about the software. These companies would most likely not be advertised in a magazine but would be mentioned inside on different pages.

Magazine Industry

The magazine industry has been up and down thought the life time magazines first came around. Over the past 5 years the music magazine industry has changed a lot, this is due to mobile phones gaining the ability to have access to the internet, with tablets also becoming more available to the average person. Because of this, magazine publishers like Future PLC and Bauer Media have to make a stand in the digital market of digital magazines. App stores and websites have made it easier than ever for magazine publishers to bring magazines to the public.

The bestselling magazines seem to be lifestyle magazines this could be because people live fast passed life nowadays and lifestyle magazines have a little of everything in them, these could be from sports to food, or gaming to childcare. Other magazines like motoring magazines have been on the decline due to real world affairs like global warming.

The music magazine industry is has many different types of magazines to do with music, these can be Instruments magazines, technology magazines and general music magazines. The most popular music magazine seems to be RollingStones, this could be because the RollingStones magazine also covers other topic, a bit like a lifestyle magazine. Some of the topic the RollingStones magazines have covered other than music are politics, entertainment and celebrities.

An article produced on TIME shows a chart in real time when you enter the website how much the US spend on each product including magazines, at the current state of this writing it has reached $75,683 in only 168 seconds. This shows that normal paper back magazines are still bought today and still popular today. With new technology advancement in printing processes, it has made it easier for companies to produce and publish magazines at a faster pace, even if the physical magazines are on the decline.

Unlike physical magazines, digital magazines are easier to buy, subscribe, and obtain. Physical magazines you have to wait for delivery and then re-subscribe every so often, this has changed slightly though as you can now easily re-subscribe online for physical copies of a magazine. Sometimes when subscribing to a magazine online they can give you an offer to receive both, this can although be expensive as you are paying for both the digital copy and the physical magazines.

Magazine publishers like Future PLC and Bauer have been looking a new ways to bring magazines to the publish, this involves trying new methods of selling magazines, changing the style of magazines and looking at the types of magazines that sell the most.

Overall the magazine industry is trying new ways of keeping up with the current speed of people’s lives, these involve using technology to its fullest and studying what genre of magazines sell the most.

Q Magazine History

Q magazine is one of the biggest music magazines in the UK, its aim is to bring all genres of music to everyone. The original founders Mark Ellan and David Hepworth, did not feel that the current media were up to standard at the time, this pushed forward their own magazine called Q magazine. The magazine is targeted to older music listeners who still buy CDs and listen to them, this is because there was a gap in the market for those type of people, allowing Mark Ellan and David Hepworth to fill that gap and leave the other music magazines to target the younger audiences of teen and young adults.

The first issues of Q magazine were subtitled as "The modern guide to music and more" this was because the magazine used the highest quality photos and paper to produce the magazine. Originally the magazine was to be called “Cue” this idea came from the way you cue a record, ready to play, but the name was changed so that it does not get mixed up with a popular snooker magazine and was shortened to just Q in the 200th edition.

Much of Q’s magazine is promoted with all sorts of things, theses could be interviews with music composers and celebrities, or free items such as sample music and Cover-mounted CDs and Books. The magazine also had a very good relationship with Glastonbury music festival, they would produce a free newspaper during the event for everyone to read.

Q magazine started a started a radio show in 2008 it being available online and on TV channels, it was based in Birmingham. The radio station had a complete roster, this Q the 80s with Matthew Rudd and Drivetime with Danielle Perry. The opening of the radio station involved Coldplay giving an exclusive interview with the radio station giving it a boost with listener count. The radio station closed around 2013, this was to free up the bandwidth for various other platforms like the radio station Kiss for its Kisstory.

Q magazine also released a TV channel called “Q TV” the channel was available on all satellite frequencies the in the early 2000s, the channel’s slogan was “Q the music”. The channel would involve band playing music on live TV. The Music channel was shut down the 2012 and replaced with Heat a celebrity gossip channel.
