Construction Schedule

Week 1: Starting 2^nd November 2015 - Make a draft of a music magazine front cover in form of a drawing making sure that there is enough detail to clearly see where everything is placed.

Week 1: Starting 4^th November 2015 - Make draft of a music magazine contents page in a form of a drawing making sure that there is enough detail to clearly see where everything is placed.

Week 1: Starting 5^th November 2015 - Make draft of a music magazine Double page spread in a form of a drawing making sure that there is enough detail to clearly see where everything is placed.

Week 2: Starting 9^th November 2015 - Photo shoot for all three of the pages, this includes front cover, contents page and double page spread.

Week 2: Starting 11^th November 2015 - Photo shoot for extra images of DJ equipment and technology, this will be used as backgrounds and contents to put on the contents page.

Week 2: Starting 12^th November 2015 - Check for errors in previous work, this could 

include mistakes in the daft work and photos that may need editing.

Week 3: Starting 16^th November 2015 - Lay template for the front cover of the music magazine. (create guidelines and text boxes within Photoshop, this will get me used to the tools within the program)

Week 3: Starting 18^th November 2015 - Lay template for the contents page of the magazine. (create guidelines and text boxes within Photoshop, this will get me used to the tools within the program)

Week 3: Starting 19^th November 2015 - Lay template for the double page spread of the magazine. (create guidelines and text boxes within Photoshop, this will get me used to the tools within the program)

Week 4 & 5: 23^rd November 2015 - 3^rd December 2015 - Construct and create the front cover of the music magazine making sure that you address the audience.

Week 6 & 7: 7^th December 2015 – 17^th December 2015 - Construct and create the contents page of the music magazine making sure that you address the audience.

Week 8 & 9: 4^th January 2016 – 14^th January 2016 - Construct and create the double page spread of the music magazine making sure that you address the audience.

Week 10: Starting 18^th January 2016 - Check for errors in finished products and make adjustment to them where necessary. 

Contact Sheet & Unedited Images

These photos above are unedited raw images taken on the day of the photo shoot, they were taken using a Digital SLR camera making sure that there was a lot of light to make sure that the images were not too dark when it comes to putting them after editing in the magazine.

Some of the other images that you can see near the bottom were taken for pages like the contents page, this is because the target audience for the magazine are most likely music technology fanatics and would also like to see the latest tech as well as the new DJ on the block.

I like these images because it shows the model using equipment which I would be able to use when it comes to making the magazine.

Location / Props / Costumes

As the music magazine I will be creating is a techno music magazine I will be needing to take the photos in some sort of club or recording studio, this is because of all of the equipment in the area that I can use as props e.g. mixing boards, headphones and speakers. These will help add depth to the photos in the magazine. If I were to use a recording studio I would need to get permission to use it, this may involve contacting the owner and asking permission to use the area for a day the same would be for a club. On location it may be a good idea to get some lighting set up to make sure that the model is well light for when it comes to editing the photos, if I were to have low key lighting it may reduce the quality of the photo when it comes to adding it the magazine.

As for the costume the model will need to be wearing hoodies, caps and headphones. This is the sort of equipment that a DJ would wear, if I were to use someone else not wearing that sort of clothing the photos would look out of place and the target audience would not be able to relate to the character.

It’s important to remember that when taking the photos I need to get the model using some of the equipment this could be headphones, mixing board and computers, by doing this it will allow the target audience to see what the music writer is up to and what he/she does in their own time when writing music.

Colour Mood Board

In my colour mood board I decided to include every colour so that I will give me more options for when it comes to creating my magazine; By doing this it will make is easier to compare which colours goes together. On the mood board I included many different shades of colours, this will help me blend different colours together that may not be typically used, making it different from other techno music magazines.

From looking at other techno music magazines I discovered that the most used colours are purples, green and blues, this may have something to do with the low lighting at a night club or the fact that a lot of DJ boards use theses lights for showing the volume of the music. By using these three colours this will help grab the attention of the target audience for when they look though the magazine rack; this will also keep the theme of the magazine throughout each page.

Because techno music is associated vibrant colours I will be using these three colour, Purple, Blue and greens. I will also be using a lot of darker colours like black and greys to go with the vibrant colours, this will stop the pages from being too colour full.

Font Mood Board

Because I decided to do a magazine about techno music, I looked for fonts that would match a technology style as this would match the front cover of the magazine very well and not look out of place; I also looked at font that looked eroded, as this would change the style of magazine that it would be presented in, but doing this would finite the choice I would have of front as they all look similar in stature.

From all of the fonts I have chosen to put on the mood board 'Inversionz' is my favourite as it already has a logo looks to it, this maybe because of the black boxes around each character giving the font some depth, although I have not yet tried it with the magazine the title I have chosen yet. This font will also match the design I have given the magazine in my drafts as its very direct in the way its shown making it easier to place each coverline and maximizing space that is used.
